the challenge:

to design a functional website for an existing client, to house multi media of her performances as well as materials for classroom presentations.

the solution:

the design needed to be simple, with slight flare, and needed to pull from the cd artwork previously completed. the addition of the repeating background helped tie in the manger crib with the clean and modern look.

| pronounced klik – ahh |

create a name in addition to designing a unique visual identity for a new south edmonton photography studio. the look had to be modern and fresh and yet be very readable and functional.

the solution:

using a very clean and edgy type face, we were able to create the illusion of a hand holding a camera and pressing the shutter button by inverting the second k to form the outlines of the camera and the a to form the fist holding it.

to create a functional and easy to use website for lendrum mb church.

the solution:

this was our second attempt at building this site. this far it has been a successful relaunch. with the previous site having been live for a year, it was essential for us to go back and see what was working, and what was not. we also needed to trim off some off some unnecessary content that was doing nothing but clutter.

we also decided to integrate the site into wordpress, making it easier and faster for content to be uploaded and changed. this is the final product!

launch site

to create a one color, vector shirt design for my brother’s ultimate frisbee team, the killer frisbees. the design needed to be “fierce”, and yet classy without being gory.

the solution:
we tried a few different things with this one, frisbee and crossbones, a ninja frisbee, but we ended up drawing from my brother’s love of james bond. nothing like a guy in a tux getting the job done!

as a personal, sisterly prided sidenote, the t-shirts (which ended up being light pink) were a huge success… and the team creamed their opponents the first game that they played wearing the new shirts!

create a 16 page booklet about a font face of my choice. pages that needed to be included were a title page, table of contents, history spread, weights and anatomy and special characters.

the solution:
through my research i discovered that this font face was influenced by 3 different designers. garamond created the original typeface for the printing press, and 60 years later, jannon refined and built on garamond’s work. jannon’s working punches, however, were lost. hundreds of years later, jannon’s punches were rediscovered and accidentally credited solely to garamond. the error was recently resolved and was then reformatted by slimbach for the digital age.

i decided that each of the original designers would have a circle and a colour representing them. (orange and blue) where they merge and green is formed, represents the influence of the original work on what we see today: slimbach’s interpretation.

using margo’s print work for”barbie couture” and “sun america” as my inspiration, i worked with soft colours and circles, and a one column layout. the font faces used for this project were helvetica neue and caviar dreams, a personal favourite of mine (particularly because the eye of the letter e is slightly slanted).
